Building the Full Trading Plan
Introduction
Random trades create random results. A professional trader has a clear plan for every trade before clicking the button. In this lesson, you’ll build your full trading plan from entry to exit so that nothing is left to chance.
1. Define Your Setup
● What You Need:
○ A setup that meets specific, repeatable criteria.
○ The OVTLYR Buy Signal is your baseline.
Checklist Should Include:
● Market trend confirmed
● Breadth and sector aligned
● Bullish price structure
● Entry candle with momentum
● Price above key moving averages
● No red flags (earnings, major resistance, etc.)
You don’t guess, you match setups to a proven pattern.
2. Entry Rules
● Wait for the checklist to be fully met.
● Enter only after the trigger candle closes.
● Avoid chasing. Let the trade come to you.
● If you miss it, move on.
Patience is part of the plan.
3. Stop Loss Rules
● Use structure-based stops.
● Place below a recent swing low or ATR level.
● Never widen a stop once the trade is live.
● Your first job is to protect capital.
“Your stop is your insurance policy.”
4. Profit Exit Plan (PEP)
● Predefine what gets you out:
○ Structure break
○ Candle reversal near resistance
○ Moving average crossover
○ Momentum stall with volume drop
● Use partial exits or trailing stops if desired.
● Don’t hold it just because you're green.
The plan tells you when to exit, not your feelings.
5. Re-Entry Criteria
● Sometimes the trade sets up again.
● Only re-enter if:
○ Full setup checklist is met again
○ You are emotionally neutral
○ New stop and target are defined
Re-entry is allowed but only under strict rules.
6. Post-Trade Review
● Win or loss, always review:
○ Did you follow your rules?
○ Was the setup valid?
○ What would you do the same/differently next time?
● Log the trade in your journal (Lesson 6).
The review is how you grow as a trader.
