Bonus Lesson: How to Exit a Trade Without Regret

Introduction

One of the most painful things in trading is exiting a trade, then watching it keep going. In this bonus lesson, you'll learn how to exit trades decisively and without regret by using structure and logic, not emotion.

1. Accept That You Will Never Sell the Top

● Trying to sell at the absolute high leads to second-guessing and bad exits.

● Focus on smart exits, not perfect ones.

● Your goal is to make money consistently, not win a contest.

2. Exiting Into Strength vs. Exiting on Weakness

A. Exiting Into Strength

● You sell when the move is still strong.

● Locks in gains early.

● Pro: Emotionally easier.

● Con: You might miss out on more upside.

B. Exiting on Weakness

● You wait until the chart tells you the move is done.

● Use a break in structure (e.g., lower low, candle reversal, M-top).

● Pro: You let the trade run as far as possible.

● Con: Requires more discipline and comfort with drawdowns.

Use either, but choose one and commit. Don’t flip-flop.

3. Use Chart-Based Exit Signals

● Break of structure (e.g., lower high and lower low on bullish trend)

● Major reversal candle (engulfing, shooting star, etc.)

● Failure to hold moving averages

● Price stalling at known resistance

4. Exit Partial or Full

● You can sell part of your position to lock in gains and let the rest run.

● Example: Sell half at 2x risk, trail the rest.

● Avoid selling just because you "feel" like it. Use a reason from the chart.

5. Handling Regret

● It’s normal to feel regret when a trade runs without you.

● But if you exited based on your plan—you did your job.

● Don’t chase after it. Wait for the next setup.

● Build confidence by repeating process-based exits.

Process reduces regret. Plans create peace.

This bonus lesson wraps up your foundation. Now you know how to exit trades logically, protect your gains, and move on without second-guessing. The more you trade with discipline, the more consistent your results will become.
